Regular aircon servicing helps keep your aircon clean and running properly, but there are parts of the cooling coil that can be difficult to reach through normal cleaning.
This is where Cleanhale comes in.
Cleanhale is a specialised coil hygiene treatment designed to remove bacteria, mould and other buildup from deep inside the aircon cooling coil.
Air Connection is now a Cleanhale Accredited Aircon Service Provider in Singapore, with our technicians trained to carry out the treatment.
In this guide, we explain what Cleanhale is, how it works, and why you may want to include it as part of your regular aircon maintenance.
What is Cleanhale?
Cleanhale is an aircon coil hygiene treatment formulated in Germany.
The treatment uses a specially formulated cleaning solution together with calibrated hydromechanical flushing. It is applied directly to the cooling coil inside the indoor aircon unit.

One advantage is that the aircon does not need to be fully dismantled. The treatment is designed to reach the coil surfaces from different angles while most of the unit remains in place.
Its main purpose is to clean areas inside the coil that can be difficult to reach during normal aircon servicing.
What happens during a Cleanhale treatment
Cleanhale is carried out as part of a service visit, after your regular aircon servicing, such as filter and drain pan cleaning, is done.
Our technicians switch off power to the indoor unit before starting, and protect the surrounding area, covering your walls, flooring and nearby furniture.
The Cleanhale solution is then applied evenly across the cooling coil, reaching the surfaces that general servicing cannot fully get to.
The solution is alcohol-based and air-dries on its own, so no rinsing with water is needed afterwards. To help the coil dry, the fan is run at a higher speed, and the room is kept ventilated while this happens.
What is the aircon “hygiene gap”?
During regular aircon use, moisture, dust and dirt can collect around the cooling coil.
Over time, bacteria, mould and fungus may also develop within the deeper sections of the coil.
General aircon servicing focuses on cleaning accessible components such as the filters, drainage system and exposed areas of the indoor unit. Even during more thorough cleaning, some parts within the coil structure can be harder to reach completely.
Cleanhale refers to this as the “hygiene gap”.
The treatment is designed specifically to target this area and remove microbial buildup that may otherwise remain inside the coil.
This does not mean regular servicing is ineffective. Cleanhale is meant to complement your normal aircon maintenance rather than replace it.
How effective is Cleanhale?
Cleanhale has undergone independent testing by TÜV SÜD PSB Singapore against Singapore Standards SS554:2009 and SS554:2016.
According to the test results, the treatment was found to eliminate up to 99.9994% of bacterial buildup and reduce mould and yeast counts by up to 64.8%.
Cleanhale also holds allergy-friendly certification from the European Centre for Allergy Research Foundation, or ECARF, in Germany.

According to Cleanhale, its formulation does not contain PFAS, carcinogens, mutagens or endocrine disruptors.
These certifications and test results provide independent information on the hygiene performance and formulation of the treatment, rather than relying only on claims made by the manufacturer.
Does Cleanhale replace regular aircon servicing?
No. Cleanhale should be treated as an additional hygiene treatment rather than a replacement for general aircon servicing or chemical cleaning.
Regular servicing is still important for maintaining components such as:
- Air filters
- Drainage pipes
- Blower components
- Accessible coil surfaces
- Overall aircon performance
Cleanhale focuses specifically on deeper areas within the cooling coil where microbial buildup may be harder to remove through normal servicing.
Both types of cleaning therefore serve different purposes.
How often should Cleanhale be done?
Cleanhale recommends carrying out the treatment around once or twice a year.
How often you need it may depend on factors such as how frequently your aircon is used, the condition of the units and the environment in your home.
For most households, Cleanhale can be added periodically on top of your usual aircon servicing schedule.

Who may want to consider Cleanhale?
Cleanhale may be worth considering if:
- Your aircon is used frequently
- Your aircon has been installed for several years
- You are concerned about mould or bacteria inside the cooling coil
- You want a deeper level of aircon hygiene
- Someone in the household is sensitive to allergens
- You want to include periodic coil hygiene treatment as part of your aircon maintenance
It can also be useful for households that want more thorough cleaning without having to dismantle the entire indoor unit.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
1. Is Cleanhale only necessary for older aircon units?
Not necessarily. Microbial buildup inside the coil can happen in newer units too, especially if they are used frequently or run in a humid environment. How much buildup develops depends more on usage and conditions than the age of the unit itself.
2. Is Cleanhale suitable for households with allergies or young children?
Cleanhale holds allergy-friendly certification from ECARF in Germany. The manufacturer also states that the formulation does not contain PFAS, carcinogens, mutagens or endocrine disruptors. If allergies or respiratory sensitivities are a concern in your household, you may still want to check the latest Cleanhale certification information or speak to your doctor where appropriate.
3. How long does a Cleanhale treatment take?
Cleanhale does not require the indoor unit to be completely dismantled, so the process is generally less disruptive than a full teardown cleaning. The treatment also does not need rinsing, since the solution air-dries using the unit’s own fan. The actual time required depends on your aircon model, condition, drying time and the number of units being treated. Contact us with your aircon configuration and we can give you a better estimate.
4. How much does Cleanhale cost in Singapore?
Pricing depends on the type of aircon system and the number of units being treated. Contact Air Connection and our team can provide you with a quotation based on your setup.
5. Can Cleanhale be used on different aircon brands?
Cleanhale is applied to the cooling coil itself rather than being designed around one particular aircon brand. If you are unsure whether the treatment is suitable for your aircon model, send us your brand and model details and our team can advise you.
6. How is Cleanhale different from a chemical wash?
A chemical wash uses stronger chemical solutions to deep-clean heavily soiled or neglected coils, and typically requires more extensive dismantling of the unit. Cleanhale is a gentler, preventative treatment applied directly to the cooling coil without harsh chemicals. It is designed for regular maintenance, to prevent biofilm and microbial buildup and keep your unit clean and your air quality healthy in between chemical washes.
